Training for SaLTs and Specialist Teachers: Elklan Total Training Package for 0-3s
Recent research states that early language skills are 'key to later success'.
"Gareth Jenkins, from Save the Children, says the research demonstrates for the first time the most crucial determinant of success in SATS tests is how well children can communicate when they start school. The poorest children are more likely to start school without simple skills, such as being able to tell a short story, express feelings and communicate easily with a wide range of adults"
Research completed by academics at the Institute of Education who analysed the progress of 5,000 children using data from the Millennium Cohort Study and the National Pupil Database in England. and reported by the BBC Feb 17th 2016. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-35476433
Elklan's evidence based Speech and Language Support for 0-3s is our highly successful externally accredited training course which equips staff to develop these key communication skills in children proved to ensure later success in school. This is the only accredited training in speech, language and communication that is aimed specifically at those working with babies and very young children.
Developed to support the revised EYFS framework this course links research on early language development with best practice to give practitioners up to date theoretical knowledge and practical tools to promote communication. Although designed to support the 2 year review and Development Matters statement in England the strategies underpin all curricula wherever taught.
This course has been written so that Speech and Language Therapists (SaLTs) and teaching advisors can teach it is their locality under license.
How can I be trained to deliver this course?
Attend our Total Training Package (TTP) for 3-5s course and then you can complete a further one day training to deliver this programme. Alternatively if you are already an Elklan tutor and have the underpinning skills required to work with this client group you can just purchase the manual. TTPs are held in London, Salford and Ireland every year and you will receive the training from Liz or Henrietta.
What do SaLT trainnes say about our TTPs?
No more training required to teach the other programmes!
Once you are an Elklan tutor you can deliver the full range of courses for learners. You don't need to attend another Total Training Package. As an Elklan tutor you can purchase the additional teaching notes and materials at relatively low cost. This means that you will be offer all the Elklan courses within your locality.
As an Elklan tutor, you enter into a large network of others who are all seeking to fulfil the same aims as you in meeting the needs of children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). You will receive ongoing support and advice from Elklan who will answer your queries about delivering courses.
Training with others
Elklan supports collaborative practice and is keen to promote SaLTs and specialist teachers training together. However we are aware that this is not always possible so many SaLTs train on their own and we are currently enabling specialist teachers who meet certain criteria to train in isolation. The following downloads will give more information on the requirements and procedure.
