NEW: Courses for SaLTs and Specialist Teachers: Elklan Total Training Package for Pupils with SLD
This brand new course uses innovative material to equip SaLTs and teaching advisors to provide practical, accredited training to develop communication in children and young people with severe learning difficulties in all settings including mainstream schools. It is VERY different to the current course for children and young people with complex needs.
This course has been written so that Speech and Language Therapists (SaLTs) and teaching advisors can teach it is their locality under license.
How can I become a licensed tutor?
When you attend this Elklan Total Training Package (TTP) course you will be given everything you need to teach the course except for the DVD clips (for reasons of consent).
The TTP course will cover all the content of the training programme, and you will receive information on:
- How to run an accredited programme
- Being a tutor on an OCN London accredited programme
- How to assess learners work
- How Elklan works
Find out more about levels, credits and how qualifications compare in UK and Ireland here.
What do SaLT trainees say about our TTP courses?
No more training required to teach the other programmes!
Once you are an Elklan tutor you can deliver the full range of courses for learners. You don't need to attend another Total Training Package course. As an Elklan tutor you can purchase the additional teaching notes and materials at relatively low cost. This means that you will be offer all the Elklan courses within your locality.
As an Elklan tutor, you enter into a large network of others who are all seeking to fulfil the same aims as you in meeting the needs of children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). You will receive on-going support and advice from Liz and Henrietta and you will be invited to attend annual meetings held in Salford, London and Northern Ireland which are offered free of charge.
Training with others
Elklan supports collaborative practice and is keen to promote SaLTs and specialist teachers training together. However we are aware that this is not always possible so many SaLTs train on their own and we are currently enabling specialist teachers who meet certain criteria to train in isolation. The following downloads will give more information on the requirements and procedure.
