Information for Managers of SaLT services: How we work
1. Working with local SaLT and teaching advisory services
Elklan works by training your speech and language therapist team along with any specialist teachers with whom they maybe working to collaboratively train your local wider workforce. Where collaborative working is unavailable the SaLTs deliver the courses on their own.
Using local tutors ensures that the training supports the work of your service and ensures continuity between what is taught and service delivery. It encourages the development of local networks and builds the relationship between your department, schools and the specialist advisory services.
Elklan runs courses in England and Ireland to train SaLTs and advisory teachers as tutors and co-tutors, these are called Total Training Packages (TTPs).Current TTP programme >>
Elklan is also available to come and train the SaLTs in your department on the relevant TTP to enable the whole department to roll out and support Elklan training.
To help you market your courses we can advertise them on our website.
Generate income for your service
This cascade model enables your service to generate income. You can charge schools for the training and keep most of the fee. A small proportion will be forwarded to Elklan to pay for the accreditation process and the book which contains most of the material taught on the course.
2. Accessing training where the local SaLT service does not provide Elklan training
In some areas Elklan courses are not offered through Health or Education Services. To help meet the demands of the local workforce, Elklan has trained tutors, in some areas, to work in an independent role. The Elklan tutor can train staff on the full range of Elklan externally accredited training courses as well as providing inset days and twilight sessions.
We ask independent Elklan tutors to liaise with local services to ensure that professional working relationships are maintained at all times.
Elklan has been hugely successful in setting up and supporting this cascade model of training, we have to date reached over 20,000 learners through our extensive tutor network.
